Journal
The journal is the official, dated record of your business’s finances. Each entry records one event, such as “Sales invoice SINV-2026-0001”, and the balanced amounts it added to or took from each account.
You don’t type journal entries yourself. Homwe creates them automatically when you:
- post a sales or purchase invoice or receipt
- record or change an expense
- adjust stock, or complete a stock take
- settle a stock transfer
- make a sale on a point-of-sale device
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”Go to Accounting → Journal.
The journal list
Section titled “The journal list”| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Entry date | The date the entry counts for. For posted documents, this is the document’s issue date. |
| Description | What caused the entry, e.g. “Manual stock adjustment: Damaged in transit” |
| Document | The document number, if the entry came from a document |
| Created | When the entry was actually recorded |
Use the From and To dates to show entries in a date range. Both dates are included. Newest entries are listed first. Click Load more to see the next 25.
An entry’s detail page
Section titled “An entry’s detail page”Click an entry to see:
- its entry date, description, and a button to open the source document
- each line: the account, the customer or vendor (if any), and the debit or credit amount
- notes, such as “Auto-posted from document SINV-2026-0001”
Amounts are shown in your default currency. For a foreign-currency document, each line also shows the original amount and the exchange rate used, e.g. “€100.00 @ 1.08000000”.
Entries can’t be changed
Section titled “Entries can’t be changed”Journal entries are permanent. When you correct or delete an expense, Homwe adds a reversing entry rather than changing the original.
