Receipts
A receipt records a completed sale (sales receipt) or a completed purchase (purchase receipt). Receipts use the same screens as invoices, with one difference: a receipt has no due date. Use a receipt when the customer pays at the time of sale.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”- Sales → Receipts
- Purchases → Receipts
Create a receipt
Section titled “Create a receipt”- Click + New Sales Receipt (or + New Purchase Receipt).
- Choose the Entity (customers for sales receipts, vendors for purchase receipts), the Currency, and the Issue date. Leave Doc number blank to number it automatically.
- Add line items the same way you would on an invoice: product, description, quantity, unit price, discount, tax rate, and unit.
- Click Create.
Totals work the same way as on invoices.
Post a receipt
Section titled “Post a receipt”Open the receipt and choose Actions → Post to Accounts. If an approval rule applies, choose Submit for Approval instead. Posting is permanent, so check the receipt before you post it.
Sales from a paired point-of-sale (POS) device are recorded as sales receipts automatically.
Linking receipts to invoices
Section titled “Linking receipts to invoices”In the receipt’s Linked documents section you can link it to the invoice it relates to. The link is a reference so you can click between the two.
